ACL injuries in adolescent athletes

  • A large systematic review found that female adolescent athletes face an ACL injury risk of almost 0.084 per 10,000 athlete-exposures, compared to 0.060 for males. That equates to nearly a 1 in 10,000 chance per exposure, with girls at 1.4× higher risk than boys—particularly in sports like soccer and basketball PubMed+1.

  • Pooled data reported an overall ACL injury incidence of 6.9% across adolescent athletes (6.0% in males, 8.4% in females)
